Episode 6

JUNE has confronted DERRICK in the lobby of her dorm. It is two thirty in the morning and he has come to take her on a horse drawn carriage ride.

(JUNE walks into the lobby and DERRICK is standing there smiling. She walks right up to him and throws the roses at him.)

DERRICK - Hey! What are you doing? What's this?

JUNE - I don't want your roses! Leave me alone!

DERRICK - Roses? I didn't send you any roses! That's some normal guy shit!

JUNE - Yes you did! I got these earlier!

DERRICK - June, I didn't send you any roses.

JUNE - Well what are you doing here then?

DERRICK - I came to take you out! I have a horse drawn carriage out front.

(DERRICK smiles.)

JUNE - But wait, you didn't send these roses?

DERRICK - Hell no!

(silence)

JUNE - Then...

JUNE thinks - Oh no! These must be from Buck! He's the one who sent these! And the note says...meet me at the court! Oh no!

(JUNE looks at the clock on the wall. She looks back at DERRICK.)

JUNE - You have a what outside?

DERRICK - A horse drawn carriage! See for yourself.

(DERRICK smiles.)

RECEPTIONIST - He aint lying girl! I saw it pull up and was speechless!

(JUNE looks out the front door. There is a carriage, a horse and a driver in a top hat.)

JUNE thinks - Oh my God!

JUNE - Derrick, what in the world...

DERRICK - It's just a little something. Ya know.

JUNE - A little somethin'? Derrick there's a horse and carriage outside!

DERRICK - Yes indeed. That's how I do! Ha ha! I aint on no regular bullshit!

JUNE thinks - Oh God!

DERRICK - So listen June. I wanna get a chance to talk. We haven't really talked in a long time and honestly...well...I miss it. I miss our conversations. So wherever you wanna go right now you got it. I'm at your full disposal. We can ride somewhere and...talk.

(DERRICK smiles and waits for JUNE's answer.)

JUNE - Wherever I wanna go?

DERRICK - Wherever you wanna go.

JUNE - Fine! Take me to the basketball court in the park where you used to practice!

GREGG called CARYN when he was on the yard with his frat brothers. He told her to meet him late and that they couldn't meet at his place. She has decided to pick him up in her Mercedes truck.

GREGG thinks - Where is this chick! It's mad late and it's cold out here!

(GREGG looks at his watch and then looks down the street for CARYN's truck.)

GREGG - Oh here she is! Damn!

(CARYN pulls up and waves to GREGG. He jogs to the truck and gets in.)

CARYN - Wassup handsome?

GREGG - Hey girl. What took you so long?

CARYN - I had to drop off the baby. You know niggas aint tryin' to spend time with their kids, but I put a stop to that shit! You know how I do.

GREGG - Yeah. Ha ha ha.

(CARYN pulls off.)

CARYN - So how you been G? You still killin' all the young girls with your looks?

GREGG - Naw girl, I've been taking it easy lately. Bout to settle down and get serious.

CARYN - Nigga please! You ain't gettin' serious!

GREGG - Ha ha ha ha! You right!

(They laugh as CARYN turns toward downtown.)

GREGG - Where we going?

CARYN - Oh I got a room at the Comfort Inn.

GREGG - Comfort Inn? What, money is gettin' kinda tight?

CARYN - Oh not at all. But that's the last place a nigga would look to come and get me. Won't nobody even think to look for me there and I don't feel like being bothered by either Derrick or Bobby tonight.

GREGG - I see.

CARYN - So I got the room there.

(GREGG looks back out the window at the direction they are driving.)

GREGG - Wait, you're going to the one downtown?

CARYN - Yeah, on Ogle Turnpike.

GREGG thinks - Damn! That's right near Shareesa's job and she said she would be there late studying up on that software! Last thing I need is for her to see me! And with my luck she would!

(GREGG looks at his watch.)

GREGG thinks - Shit!

CARYN - So have you missed me?

GREGG - Huh?

CARYN - Nigga I said did you miss me since I've been gone.

GREGG - You know I did boo. Because you know how me and you get down!

(GREGG playfully slaps CARYN on the leg.)

CARYN - Ouch! Oooh, do that again big daddy! Hee hee.

(They both laugh as CARYN approaches the downtown area and the hotel.)

GREGG thinks - I need to bounce up out of this truck and get into the hotel quick!

GREGG - Come on girl, let's hurry!

CARYN - Damn Gregg! You ain't no joke baby! You're turnin' me on!

GREGG - Good because I just can't wait!

(CARYN parks and they hurry into the hotel and to the elevator. GREGG has his head low as he goes in.)

GREGG thinks - Once I get to the room, I'll be safe!

(They get off the elevator and GREGG still peeks around corners until they get to her room. She uses her key to open the door and GREGG flings her inside.)

CARYN - Oooh baby!

(GREGG locks the door and CARYN jumps on him as he turns around.)

Hours later...

(GREGG raises up just enough to see the alarm clock on the night stand.)

GREGG thinks - Damn! It's mad late!

(He looks over at CARYN who is sleeping on her back. Her hair is wild and she has one leg draped across GREGG and both breasts exposed.)

GREGG - Okay, time for me to get up out of here!

(Slowly GREGG eases his legs out from under KAREN's leg. She continues to sleep. He carefully gets out of the bed. He doesn't make any noise.)

GREGG thinks - I'm an expert at this! Ha!

(He grabs his clothes and tip toes into the bathroom to get dressed.)

GREGG thinks - I need to write a book on being a player! Damn I'm good!

(GREGG looks in the mirror and admires himself.)

GREGG thinks - Damn so pretty!

(He finishes putting his clothes on and he eases his way out of the bathroom. He then slides twenty dollars out of CARYN's purse.)

GREGG thinks - She aint gonna miss this with all the money she got! Heck, it's probably Derrick's money anyway!

(He slowly opens the door to the room and carefully squeezes out into the hall.)

GREGG thinks - Whew! Now let me catch a cab back to the crib!

(GREGG flags down a cab in front of the hotel and is headed back toward Tandy Hall on campus.)

GREGG thinks - I am so tired! I can fall asleep right in the back of this cab!

(The cab gets to Ahpla's campus and to Tandy Hall. GREGG pays the driver and gets out.)

GREGG thinks - Home sweet home! Ha ha ha ha!

(As GREGG is crossing the street he sees SHAREESA's car.)

GREGG thinks - Oh shit! Reece is here! Okay, I gotta think of a good one! Where the hell have I been? Damn!

DERRICK helps JUNE into the carriage and says a few words to the driver. Once inside, the driver gets the horse to begin to gallop.

DERRICK - Isn't this nice?

JUNE - Yeah...special.

DERRICK - Exactly. This is very special. Just you and me, the way it used to be.

(silence)

DERRICK - You know what I mean?

(silence)

JUNE - Huh? You were saying something?

DERRICK - I was just saying how nice it is to just be you and me. Like old times.

JUNE - Oh...uh...yeah.

(JUNE looks up at the sky.)

JUNE - It's kind of chilly out here. Did it rain or something?

DERRICK - Yeah it did. It actually came down real hard a little while ago. I thought I wasn't going to be able to do this carriage thing. But luckily it stopped. Just in time too.

JUNE thinks - Oh God it rained!

JUNE - Can this thing go any faster?

DERRICK - Faster? But that's not romantic.

(JUNE looks at DERRICK like he's crazy.)

DERRICK - Let's just enjoy the ride.

(JUNE turns to face away from DERRICK.)

DERRICK - Hey June, I think it's real cute that you want to go back to the court. We spent a lot of quality time there and had some good talks. That was a great idea.

JUNE - Uh huh.

DERRICK - And I'm glad you're not too mad that it's so early in the morning. You know most men wouldn't have gone through all this kind of trouble. Ya know, staying up so late to do something nice for a special lady.

JUNE thinks - Buck probably did!

(JUNE holds her arms together closely because it's so cold out.)

DERRICK - Oh you're cold? Let me give you my jacket. Where are my manners?

JUNE thinks - Yeah, where are they? Buck would've offerred when I walked out of the dorm!

(DERRICK takes his Portland jacket off and swings it around JUNE's arms.)

JUNE - Thank you.

DERRICK - You're most certainly welcome.

(DERRICK smiles.)

JUNE thinks - I know Buck is gone by now! Dag it's three o' clock in the morning! Why didn't he just call me and invite...he was trying to be sweet! God! And I thought it was this idiot!

(The carriage pulls up to the edge of the court. As soon as the basketball court comes into view, JUNE looks ahead to see if she sees anyone.)

DERRICK - What? What are you looking for?

(Suddenly JUNE jumps out of the carriage and runs across the court.)

DERRICK - Hey! Where are you going?

JUNE thinks - Where is he?

(JUNE looks all over and sees no one. She stops running and walks end of the court underneath the basket.)

JUNE thinks - Dammit!

(As she turns around she notices a broken champagne glass on the ground.)

JUNE thinks - Oh gosh! Buck was here! And a glass fell and broke!

(As JUNE bends down and notices that it is one of BUCK's champagne glasses, DERRICK approaches from behind.)

DERRICK - Hey, what's going on?

(JUNE springs to her feet.)

JUNE - Huh? Oh nothing.

DERRICK - Why did you run off so fast? My jacket fell off of you.

(DERRICK holds up the jacket.)

JUNE - Oh. I hadn't even noticed.

DERRICK - Are you okay?

JUNE - Yeah...I'm fine.

DERRICK - Well here...

(DERRICK puts the jacket back onto JUNE's arms and conveniently leaves his arm around her shoulders.)

DERRICK - ...let's walk back to the carriage.

JUNE - Actually Derrick, can you give me a ride back to my dorm?

DERRICK - Your dorm?

(The horse makes a noise that startles JUNE as well as DERRICK. It also startles BUCK who had fallen asleep inside his car in the opposite parking lot.)

BUCK - What the?

(BUCK looks at his watch.)

BUCK thinks - Damn! It's three o' clock in the morning! I must have fallen asleep!

(He looks around and sees that he is indeed still in the car and still has all the picnic items that he had prepared for JUNE.)

BUCK - Damn! I didn't mean to...hey...is that...what the hell...

(BUCK looks at DERRICK with his arm around JUNE walking back toward the horse and carriage.)

BUCK thinks - Oh okay cool. So that's how it is huh? Okay bet!

KATRICE is getting dressed to go to the SkeePhi.com party. OCTAVIA has come over as well so that they can ride together.

KATRICE - Are their parties usually good?

OCTAVIA - Yeah, they always do a good party. You didn't go with us last year to the skeephi party?

KATRICE - No remember? I had gone home for the summer last year.

OCTAVIA - Oh that's right! Well that last one was crunk!

KATRICE - Yeah I heard. Cool!

OCTAVIA - They have a pretty decent following and bros and sorors support them very well. So the party should be off the chains!

KATRICE - Good. I got the email about the party from like four different people.

OCTAVIA - Yeah, me too.

(OCTAVIA fixes her hair in the mirror.)

OCTAVIA - You talk to April and PJ?

KATRICE - Yeah I called them right before you got here. We're gonna pick them up on the way over to the party spot.

OCTAVIA - Cool. Is Sylvia going?

KATRICE - No. She has to study but I did speak to sorors from Amgis. They're coming.

OCTAVIA - Okay cool.

(KATRICE puts her shoes on.)

KATRICE - Are you almost ready?

OCTAVIA - Yeah, I'm ready now.

KATRICE - Cool. Let me call April then.

(KATRICE grabs her cell phone and dials as her and OCTAVIA leave the room.)

PJ - Hello.

KATRICE - Hey sands.

PJ - What's up.

KATRICE - Yall almost ready?

PJ - Yeah, you can come now. We'll be downstairs when you get here.

KATRICE - Okay we're on our way now.

PJ - Aight.

(They hang up.)

APRIL - They're on the way?

PJ - Yeah. They'll be here in a few minutes.

APRIL - Okay cool.

(PJ goes into the bathroom and APRIL fixes her make up.)

APRIL - Hey, you got any money on you? I messed around and put the wrong pin number in at the atm machine and it kept my atm card!

PJ - What?

APRIL - Yeah girl. This fine brother was walkin' by and I missed one of the numbers! Ha ha ha! So I couldn't take out any cash.

PJ - Ha ha ha ha ha! That's what you get! Yeah, I got some money I got you for the night!

APRIL - Ha ha ha, thanks.

(APRIL and PJ finish getting ready and head downstairs to the lobby.)

APRIL - I wonder is we'll have a Mona sighting tonight. Ha ha ha!

PJ - If we do, you're gonna have a Mona gettin' her ass beat sighting too!

(They walk out front just as KATRICE and OCTAVIA are pulling up.)

KATRICE - Hey.

APRIL - Wassup girls!

PJ - Yall ready to do this?

KATRICE - Yeah girl! It's gonna be hot!

(They head to the party.)

OCTAVIA - Katrice said she spoke to sorors at Amgis and they're coming tonight too.

APRIL - Oh cool.

OCTAVIA - We can probably get a real hype party stroll going on with them.

PJ - Yeah, that would be hot!

KATRICE - Cool.

(They pull up and there is a crowd out front.)

OCTAVIA - Dag, crowded already.

KATRICE - Let me park real quick so we can get up in there.

(They park and get out the car.)

OCTAVIA - Oh look, there's Reggie.

APRIL - Where?

OCTAVIA - Right there! Hey Reggie!

(REGGIE turns around and walks over.)

REGGIE - Hey sorors!

APRIL - Hey man! How is it up in there?

REGGIE - Oh it's real nice. You know skeephi does some nice jams.

KATRICE - Cool!

REGGIE - And bros and sorors don't have to wait in line.

KATRICE - We don't?

REGGIE - Naw, we can walk right up and get in faster. Come on.

OCTAVIA - Oh cool!

APRIL - Straight!

(They walk past the line of people waiting to get in and show their paraphernalia to the bouncer. He lets them go inside and to the front.)

APRIL - Cool!

REGGIE - Hey, I've already paid so I will see yall on the dance floor okay?

OCTAVIA - Yeah Reggie. And thanks!

(They approach a soror taking tickets in the front.)

APRIL - Hey soror! You work with skeephi too?

CROOKLYN - I guess you can say that! Hee hee.

APRIL - Cool. Well we're from Ahpla and...

CROOKLYN - Wait, yall are from Ahpla? What's your name in the chat room soror?

APRIL - April Showers.

CROOKLYN - Girl what's up! I'm Crooklyn!

(APRIL screams and runs around the table to hug CROOKLYN.)

APRIL - Oh my God I get to finally meet you! I've been chatting with you forever! PJ this is Crooky! Crooky this is PJ. Her chat name is Pink Justice.

CROOKLYN - Oh okay! Nice to meet yall!

PJ - Cool!

(PJ reaches down for her purse.)

PJ - Oh damn. Katrice, give me your keys. I forgot my purse in your car.

KATRICE - Oh okay cool.

PJ - I'll be right back.

(KATRICE tosses PJ the keys and she walks back out.)

GREGG arrives back at Tandy Hall after a night with CARYN in the hotel and he sees SHAREESA's car parked outside his dorm.

(As GREGG is crossing the street he sees SHAREESA's car.)

GREGG thinks - Oh shit! Reece is here! Okay, I gotta think of a good one! Where the hell have I been? Damn!

(He hurries to the front door of Tandy Hall and to the elevator. He checks his watch.)

GREGG thinks - Damn! I can't say I was hanging with frat because she probably called Xavier and Mike to see where I was!

(GREGG gets on the elevator and goes up to his floor.)

GREGG thinks - Okay I got it! I'll say that I was out at the library. I wanted to study for as long as she was studying! That way, we would have a strong connection in our relationship while...studying.

(GREGG gets off the elevator and walks down the hall.)

GREGG thinks - No! That's stupid! Let me just wing it and hope it goes okay!

(GREGG gets to his door and takes a deep breath. He looks up at the ceiling.)

GREGG - God if you can get me out of this, I'll never fool around on Shareesa again! Amen!

(GREGG opens the door and tip toes into his bedroom. SHAREESA is lying on the bed asleep. GREGG whispers.)

GREGG whispers - Shareesa...Reece?

SHAREESA - Huh? Huh? Yeah?

(SHAREESA rolls over and opens her eyes.)

SHAREESA - Gregg.

GREGG - Hey baby it's me. I didn't know you were coming over.

SHAREESA - Yeah, my study group left early so I came over and used my key. Where have you been all night? Was that you that I saw downtown?

GREGG thinks - Damn!

The AKAs have greeted CROOKLYN and paid to get into the SkeePhi party. They have now gone inside.

KATRICE - Hey, this is nice.

OCTAVIA - Told ya. They do nice parties.

APRIL - Hey there's Reggie again. Hold on yall.

(APRIL walks over to REGGIE and taps him on the shoulder.)

REGGIE - Hey girl.

APRIL - Hey, have you seen dop or ADoP?

REGGIE - I saw dop a few minutes ago.

APRIL - Can you point him out to me?

REGGIE - Yeah sure.

(REGGIE looks around.)

REGGIE - There he is right there. See the tall one?

APRIL - Oh okay thanks!

(APRIL walks behind DOP and pushes him in the back. He turns around.)

APRIL - Hey Mister Dean of Pages!

DOP - Hey soror!

APRIL - You don't know who I am do you?

(DOP smiles.)

DOP - Girl, heck yeah I know who you are!

APRIL - You liar! You owe me a dance and two drinks.

DOP - I do?

APRIL - Yeah. I'm April Showers.

DOP - Oh what's up girl!

(DOP throws his hands in the air and gives APRIL a big hug.)

DOP - What's up girl! How you doin'?

APRIL - I'm chillin man! This party is nice.

DOP - You know how we do! Ha ha ha ha!

APRIL - Come over and meet my girls!

DOP - Aight!

(They walk over to KATRICE and OCTAVIA.)

APRIL - This is Katrice, she's Sweet as Candy in the chat room and this is Octavia. I don't think she's a chatter.

DOP - What? You're not a chatter?

(OCTAVIA smiles.)

OCTAVIA - You asked me that at the last party and I told you I'm pre-med.

DOP - Girl, then you better pre-med yourself up in that chat room! Ha ha ha ha!

KATRICE - So you're dop huh?

DOP - The one and only.

KATRICE - Nice to meet you man! Where's ADoP?

DOP - He's floatin' around here somewhere with the misses.You know they be attached at the hip!

APRIL - Aww how sweet!

KATRICE - Cool!

DOP - Wait, isn't someone missing from your crew?

APRIL - Yeah PJ! Where'd she go?

DOP - Oh yeah! Pink Justice! I got something special for her because she lost a bet to me and I'm about to collect! Ha ha ha ha ha!

APRIL - Where did she go?

KATRICE - Oh she said she forgot her purse in the car so I gave her the keys to get it. She shoud be right back.

PJ thinks - I should be right back. This shouldn't take long at all.

(PJ has left the parking lot of the SkeePhi party and started to drive KATRICE's car across town.)

PJ thinks - I got a score to settle and I been waiting all week.

(PJ drives into the parking lot of Club Pyramids where there is another party going on.)

PJ thinks - I'm mad I gotta pay to get in here though just to handle this! Damn.

(PJ waits in line until she gets to the front. She pays to enters the club and goes inside.)

PJ thinks - I hope I can...

(PJ is looking around.)

PJ thinks - I'd be pissed if he's not here and I just...

(PJ walks around the dance floor.)

PJ thinks - Dag! I should've known not to...oh there he is!

(PJ walks directly up and begins to speak loudly over the music.)

PJ - I've been looking all over for you!

(JOSEPH turns around.)

JOSEPH - PJ! What's up girl! What's the deal?

PJ - Tryin' to hook up with you to get another hit of that x. So what's up man? You got some more on you?

GREGG has come home from a late night with CARYN and surprisingly found his girlfriend SHAREESA in his bed. She questions his whereabouts.

(GREGG opens the door and tip toes into his bedroom. SHAREESA is lying on the bed asleep. GREGG whispers.)

GREGG whispers - Shareesa...Reece?

SHAREESA - Huh? Huh? Yeah?

(SHAREESA rolls over and opens her eyes.)

SHAREESA - Gregg.

GREGG - Hey baby it's me. I didn't know you were coming over.

SHAREESA - Yeah, my study group left early so I came over and used my key. Where have you been all night? Was that you that I saw downtown?

GREGG thinks - Damn!

GREGG - Yeah. I took a nap when I first got home so I woke up. Since I didn't know you were coming over and I thought you were real busy at work, I went downtown to the ESPN Zone to watch the baseball game.

SHAREESA - Oh.

GREGG - The game got so good, I lost track of time. Then I went and shot a few games of pool. You know how I do.

(SHAREESA rolls back over.)

SHAREESA - Yeah.

GREGG - I'll be right to bed baby. I gotta use the bathroom.

SHAREESA - Uh huh.

GREGG - Matter of fact, let me take a shower real quick Reece. I smell like cigarettes from people smoking watching the game at the bar.

SHAREESA - Okay Gregg.

GREGG thinks - I need to wash this smell of sex off of me!

(GREGG goes into the bathroom and turns on the shower. He gets undressed.)

GREGG thinks - I need to get an Oscar for my performances at times! Damn I'm good! I don't know where that ESPN Zone thing came from! But glad it worked! That was too close for comfort!

(GREGG stares in the mirror again. As he stares at himself, his smile leaves his face.)

GREGG thinks - But on the real, maybe I should settle down. I'll be graduating soon and Shareesa is already done and on with her career. I'm getting older and I do have a good woman in her.

(GREGG stares at himself in the mirror.)

GREGG thinks - Maybe it's time for me to chill and start to treat Shareesa a little better. I actually did promise Nino that I would before he passed.

(GREGG puts his head down. He then runs some water in the sink and throws it on his face.)

GREGG thinks - I need to seriously consider changing my ways. Shareesa deserves better. I'll start thinking about it and saying some prayers about it.

(He walks over to the toilet to pee.)

GREGG - Hey...hey! Ouch!

(He stops himself from peeing and waits a second. He then continues.)

GREGG - Ouch! What the hell?

(GREGG is looking down at himself and wondering why it's burning and hurting so much while he is peeing.)
