Episode 5

BOBBY just hung up with CARYN and has now dialed DERRICK.

(BOBBY dials.)

DERRICK - This is Derrick.
BOBBY - Yo man, it's Bobby. Hey don't hang up! I need to talk to you man! I need your help!
DERRICK - Actually Bobby, I think I may be able to help you. Because now that I think about it...

(DERRICK smiles.)

DERRICK - I think I need your help as well!
BOBBY - Great! Well I know that we aren't exactly each other's favorite people, but if you can help me and I can help you, then it's all good. We can go back to hating each other later.
DERRICK - I'm listening.
BOBBY - Well here is what I need. Caryn just called me.
DERRICK - Got on your nerves huh?
BOBBY - Bruh! Anyway, she just called talkin' about come get the baby because she's going out.
DERRICK - Uh huh.
BOBBY - Hey, I don't have a problem spending time with Lil Derrick. I mean, he's my son.
DERRICK - Uh huh.
BOBBY - It's the fact that the only time that Caryn calls me to come and get him is when she wants to shake her ass! And that is what I don't appreciate.
DERRICK - So what do you want me to do?
BOBBY - Check her before I do.
DERRICK - Consider it done if you can help me.
BOBBY - Anything to get Caryn off my back! What's up?
DERRICK - Two things. Firstly I need to come back to Ahpla. I want to be a student again?
BOBBY - Oh, what you're gonna get your degree in the off season?
DERRICK - No. I am saying that I need to come back to Ahpla and leave the NBA alone.
BOBBY - What! What the hell you doin' that for?
DERRICK - That leads me to point two.
BOBBY - What's up?

(DERRICK pauses.)

DERRICK - I need your help in getting my ex girlfriend back.
BOBBY - What? Who June?
DERRICK - Yeah.
BOBBY - Why you need my help with that bruh? You aint got no game? Ha ha ha ha! Your game is only on the court? Ha ha ha ha!
DERRICK - Naw, it's just that I fucked up with her and I heard that you fuck up with women a lot! Ha ha!

(They both stop laughing.)

BOBBY - Okay, enough funny business.
DERRICK - Yeah. Let's get down to it.
BOBBY - Yeah, let's do the damn thing.
DERRICK - I can take care of Caryn. I flash some loot in her face and she does whatever I want.
BOBBY - Cool! So you get her off my back?
DERRICK - Consider it done.
BOBBY - Thanks!
DERRICK - Now what's your advice for me.
BOBBY - Okay listen up player! I'm about to take you to school, one lesson at a time!
DERRICK thinks - Oh brother!
BOBBY - Women love to be pamperred. You have to pamper them. All the time. Shower them with gifts and affection.
DERRICK - Oh, like flowers?
BOBBY - Absolutely positively not!
DERRICK - Huh?
BOBBY - That is the average guy gift. Every guy gets roses and candy.
DERRICK - That's true.
BOBBY - That's why these hos...I mean...these girls be on me bruh! I don't do that ordinary shit! I come with some ol' different type stuff. Some ol' crunk ass shit!
DERRICK - Okay. Well fill me in playboy!
BOBBY - Fo sho! And you got the loot for it too! So this is what you do.

TY is in his room playing a video game while TRINA is on his floor cleaning his tennis shoes.TRINA thinks - I hate this boy!
TY - Come on! Come on!

(TRINA looks up at TY who is totally engulfed in the video game.)

TRINA thinks - You know what...

(TRINA pulls out the plug to the game and makes it look like an accident.)

TRINA - Ooops, was that the plug?

(TY looks at TRINA as if he is going to kill her.)

TY - I see you're not busy enough. Why don't you clean my bedposts with that toothbrush when you're done with my tennis shoes.
TRINA - You know Ty, you can't keep doing this to me forever!
TY - I never intended to. I just wanted to get you back a little. But you keep pushing my buttons and making me extend your time!
TRINA - Doh!

(TRINA goes back to cleaning. TY smiles at her.)

TY - Your ass is lucky I don't just tell Ronnie what you and Bobby are doing. He is my frat brother ya know!
TRINA - Like I told you, it only happened once and it won't happen again. It was a mistake to ever hook up with Bobby again. So please don't tell Ronnie. You know how he is.
TY - Yeah, I know how he is alright.
TRINA - And you know what kind of drama he causes.
TY - Oh yeah!
TRINA - So let's just keep that between us okay?
TY - You got it...for now. Just keep cleaning my shit.
TRINA thinks - Damn!

(TY plugs his game back in and starts to play. TRINA keeps cleaning.)

JUNE is at home and is on the phone with her soror RENEE from Amgis College.

JUNE - And you couldn't find him again?
RENEE - Girl no! I told him I would be right back, I went to the bathroom, I came back to the bar and I didn't see him.
JUNE - That is weird! I asked his boy and he didn't see Marcus leave or anything.
RENEE - I thought that it was me. Like maybe I was trippin' or I was drunk or something! Like, was he ever really there? He was so perfect!
JUNE - Oh he definitely was there! He was fine!
RENEE - I didn't get a phone number or anything.
JUNE - Yeah, that's crazy.
RENEE - I just hope I run into him again, like at Pharoahs or something.
JUNE - Yeah I hope so.
RENEE - So what's the scoop on that soror Mona? Yall seemed to get real quiet when she was around.
JUNE - Oh girl let me tell you. Mona is a trip in a half! She causes so much trouble that I couldn't even begin to run down all that she has put us through!
RENEE - Really?
JUNE - Soror, it began with her not pledging and it got worse from there!
RENEE - Oh wait, I remember her! I remember talking to Sylvia about a girl that had gone over but didn't do anything to get it! She told me that while yall were still pledging.
JUNE - So she is a soror, a lot of it is because of her mom.
RENEE - Oh she's legacy?
JUNE - Yeah. And you know how they can be.
RENEE - Hey! I'm legacy!
JUNE - You are? Ooops, sorry soror! Ha ha ha ha!
RENEE - I hear ya. We ain't all that bad. But I know what you mean.
JUNE - Yeah, so we leave Mona Ferguson alone.
RENEE - Makes sense.
JUNE - As a matter of fact, that other girl that you met Jahanna...
RENEE - Uh huh.
JUNE - The only reason she didn't make our line is because she beat Mona up.
RENEE - What?
JUNE - She thought that Mona ruined her chances at becoming an AKA. So she kicked Mona's butt!
RENEE - Are you serious?
JUNE - Dead serious! Sorors didn't like the way that Jahanna handled the situation, eventhough it was only Mona. So they voted to keep her off line.
RENEE - Man, I would've voted her soror of the year!

(They both laugh.)

JUNE - Yeah, right.
RENEE - Well she was impressive though. The sorors from the chapter that met her had good things to say about her.
JUNE - Good. She is a good candidate despite how she handled that particular situation.
RENEE - I'll keep that in mind.
JUNE - When are yall thinking about having a line?
RENEE - Well we were talking about...

(JUNE's phone has another call coming in.)

JUNE - Hold on Renee, I got another call.
RENEE - Okay.

(JUNE clicks over.)

JUNE - Hello.
RECEPTIONIST - Hi this is the front desk. Is this June?
JUNE - Yeah this is June.
RECEPTIONIST - I need for you to come downstairs. You have a delivery person here with a package for you that you have to sign for.
JUNE - Okay, I'll be right down.

(JUNE clicks back over.)

JUNE - Renee, I got some package downstairs that I have to sign for. I'll call you back.
RENEE - Cool soror.

(They hang up and JUNE leaves her room.)

JUNE thinks - I wonder what this package is? Why couldn't they just put it in my mailbox?

(JUNE gets on the elevator.)

JUNE thinks - I hope it's another care package from home!

(JUNE gets to the lobby and passes a few people. There is a delivery guy in the lobby with a pizza.)

JUNE - Hey, you just called me about signing for a package? I didn't order a pizza.
RECEPTIONIST - Oh no, ha ha ha, that isn't yours.
JUNE - Oh! Ha ha ha!
RECEPTIONIST - Signing for a pizza, that's funny. No your package is over there.

(The girl points in another direction to a delivery man holding a vase full of beautiful red roses.)

RECEPTIONIST - Those are some beautiful flowers! I was trying to figure out who the lucky person is who got those! Damn.
JUNE - Uh huh...thanks.

(JUNE doesn't smile but walks to the delivery person. She signs his pad and takes the vase to the elevator. There is another girl waiting for the elevator.)

GIRL - Wow, those are pretty!
JUNE - Yeah...thanks.
GIRL - Boyfriend send you those?
JUNE - Naw, I know my ex sent these so I ain't impressed.

(The girl laughs as they both get on the elevator. JUNE presses her floor and then gets off as the elevator reaches it. She goes into her room and locks her door behind her.)

JUNE thinks - Derrick thinks he's slick! I wish he would stop doing stuff like this!

(She takes the card from the flowers and opens it. She then calls RENEE back.)

RENEE - Hello?
JUNE - Wassup girl.
RENEE - Oh hey.
JUNE - Do you know this fool Derrick sends me twelve roses?
RENEE - Your ex?
JUNE - Yeah. I am tired of this mess. And listen to this note. Hold on.

(JUNE grabs the note off the table.)

JUNE - Listen to this...To my dearest June...oh Lord!

(RENEE laughs.)

JUNE - ...since the day I met you, you have made me the happiest man alive. These roses fail in comparison to your beauty. Please meet me tonight at the basketball court. I have a surprise for you.
RENEE - So what are you gonna do?
JUNE - Nothing. Let his butt sit at the basketball court!

After searching for LARRY in Club Pyramids on gay lesbian night, APRIL has given up and decided to sit down. Just as she does, LARRY walks up to her.

LARRY - April?

(APRIL turns around.)

APRIL - Larry!
LARRY - April, I thought that was you. Uh...I didn't know that you're down with Pyramids on a night like tonight.
APRIL - Huh? Oh I am definitely not! I'm here with some...friends.
LARRY thinks - Yeah right.
LARRY - Oh yeah? Me too.
APRIL - I was actually thinking the same thing about you. I didn't know you hung out like this.
LARRY - Really?

(LARRY smiles, looks around at the dance floor, then back at APRIL.)

LARRY - Well look soror...

(LARRY leans in close.)

LARRY - Your secret is safe with me. We can keep this between the two of us.

(APRIL smiles.)

APRIL - Cool!
APRIL thinks - Ha! Katrice and PJ already saw him here! It aint no secret!
LARRY thinks - Yeah right! Wait til I tell Bobby that I saw April up in lesbian night!
LARRY - So are you having a good time?
APRIL - Actually no. I'm tired and ready to go home.
LARRY - Really? This music is bangin' though.
APRIL - Yeah but still. I wasn't enthused about coming out tonight in the first place.
LARRY - Oh so you...friends had to drag you out huh?
APRIL - Something like that.
LARRY - I see said the blind man. Well why don't you round them up and be out of here.
APRIL - I don't want to be the party pooper. Ya know? They're having a good time. I don't wanna be the spoiled sport.
LARRY - I hear ya. Well look, if you want, I'll take you back to campus.
APRIL - You will?
LARRY - Yeah. I'll drive you back.
APRIL - But what about the party? I couldn't ask you to do that.
LARRY - It's no problem. I can come back in after I drop you off.
APRIL - Really? You would do that?
LARRY - Sure. I guess you should let your girlfriend...I mean your friend know so they don't put out a missing person report out on ya. I don't wanna see you on the side of a milkbox! Ha ha ha ha!
APRIL thinks - This boy is so corny!
APRIL - Okay let me go find them. Can you wait right here and I'll be right back?
LARRY - Yeah okay.

(APRIL gets up and starts to look for KATRICE and PJ.)

APRIL thinks - Good! I can get up out of here! I'll catch PJ and Katrice later! Now where are they...oh there's Katrice!

(APRIL spots KATRICE by the bar talking to someone. She walks over.)

APRIL - Hey Katrice.

(KATRICE looks around as APRIL puts her and on her shoulder.)

KATRICE - Hey girl, what's up. Oh this is Sharon. Sharon this is April.
APRIL - Oh hi.
SHARON - Hi.
APRIL - Hey Katrice, I was talking to Larry and he's gonna drive me back to Ahpla okay?
KATRICE - What? You're leaving?
APRIL - Yeah. I'm kinda tired.
KATRICE - You sure? You're gonna be alright?
APRIL - Yeah I'll be fine.
KATRICE - Okay I'll catch you later girl.
APRIL - I'm gonna find PJ now and tell her too.
KATRICE - Okay, later.
APRIL - Bye.

(APRIL walks around for a minute looking for PJ. She can't find her.)

APRIL thinks - Well I'm sure Katrice will tell her for me. Let me get out of here before someone else that knows me sees me.

(APRIL walks back over to LARRY.)

APRIL - Okay I'm ready.
LARRY - Cool. Let's go.
(They begin to walk toward the exit.)
LARRY - You found your girls?
APRIL - Only one of them. But I'm sure she'll let the other one know that I left.
LARRY - Oh true. That's what friends are for.

(LARRY starts to sing the song by Dionne Warwick.)

LARRY - That's what friends are for!

(APRIL laughs.)

APRIL thinks - God! I have to ride in the same car with this cornball? Ha ha ha ha!
LARRY - Hey wait...

(LARRY grabs APRIL's arm and they stop.)

APRIL - What?
LARRY - Isn't that PJ?

(They look and see PJ and JOSEPH leaving.)

APRIL - Yeah it is. But who is that guy she is leaning all over?

TRINA - I finished all your shoes Ty. And your damn bedposts.

(silence)

TRINA - Ty!
TY - Huh? What?

(TY picks his head up from his desk. He was taking a nap.)

TY - You're finished?

(TY wipes the drool from the side of his face.)

TRINA thinks - This nigga!
TRINA - Yeah, I'm done.
TY - Aight girl, I think I've tortured you enough. Ha ha ha ha!
TRINA - I mean yeah. Clean your shoes, write two papers for you, clean your dirty drawers...
TY - Ha ha ha ha ha! So now we're even.
TRINA - Yeah Ty, we're even.
TY - And you stop fuckin' over my bruh.
TRINA - I told you that it was a mistake and that it wouldn't happen again. I mean that.
TY - Good because I think Ronnie really likes you and beyond him being real upset, he would be real hurt.
TRINA - You're right. He does worship the ground I walk on.
TY - Oh God, don't push it!

(TRINA laughs.)

TRINA - So you tryin' to come up off those pictures? I need to burn em'.
TY - Oh okay cool. Hold on let me get em.

(TY goes into his closet and up to the top shelf.)

TRINA - So you actually were followin' me trying to get some info on me? And you saw me with Bobby?
TY - Yep. One thing I learned as a Lamp is to do things until completion. Never give up on shit. So I figured if I followed you enough, you would do something stupid enough that I could use against you. Little did I know it would be something that stupid!
TRINA - Shut up!

(TY comes out of the closet with a shoe box. He opens it on his bed and hands TRINA four pictures.)

TY - And here's the negatives too, so you know I ain't tryin' to play you.
TRINA - Thanks.

(As TY hands the pictures to TRINA, there is a very loud banging on his door and barking outside.)

RONNIE - Ty! Hey team! What's up dog! Open up!

(TY whispers.)

TY - Oh shit! It's Ronnie!
TRINA - Oh my God! He's gonna ask what I'm doin here! What should I say?

(TY shrugs as RONNIE pounds on the door harder.)

RONNIE - Wake your ass up sleepy head! I got these two freshman honies that I just met that I want you to meet!

JUNE is sleeping and is awakened by her telephone ringing.

JUNE - Huh? Hello?
RECEPTIONIST - June, this is the front desk. I think you should come down here, there is somewhere here to see you.
JUNE - What? What times is it?
RECEPTIONIST - Two thirty.
JUNE - Two thirty? Who is it?
RECEPTIONIST - I think you should come down here and see this.

(JUNE hangs up and bangs her head against her pillow over and over.)

JUNE - Derrick! Derrick!

(She gets out of bed, puts on a robe and slippers and heads to the lobby carrying the roses she received earlier.)

JUNE thinks - I have to end this once and for all!

(JUNE walks into the lobby and DERRICK is standing there smiling. She walks right up to him and throws the roses at him.)

DERRICK - Hey! What are you doing? What's this?
JUNE - I don't want your roses! Leave me alone!
DERRICK - Roses? I didn't send you any roses! That's some normal guy shit!
JUNE - Yes you did! I got these earlier!
DERRICK - June, I didn't send you any roses.
JUNE - Well what are you doing here then?
DERRICK - I came to take you out! I have a horse drawn carriage out front.

(DERRICK smiles.)

JUNE - But wait, you didn't send these roses?
DERRICK - Hell no!

(silence)

JUNE - Then...

(BUCK had put his head down on the table hours ago and fallen asleep. He is sitting at a table near the basketball court waiting for JUNE to arrive to an outdoor candlelit dinner. He is awakened by the patter of rain drops that have started to fall.)

APRIL and LARRY have just noticed PJ leaving Club Pyramids with JOSEPH.

LARRY - Hey wait...

(LARRY grabs APRIL's arm and they stop.)

APRIL - What?
LARRY - Isn't that PJ?

(They look and see PJ and JOSEPH leaving.)

APRIL - Yeah it is. But who is that guy she is leaning all over?
LARRY - I don't know but he is practically carrying her out.
APRIL - Come on.

(APRIL and LARRY try to hurry through the crowd to get to PJ.)

APRIL - PJ! PJ!

(APRIL reaches out and grabs PJ by the arm. JOSEPH turns around.)

APRIL - PJ! Are you alright?

(PJ just looks at APRIL with a blank stare.)

APRIL - PJ...what's wrong? Hey man, where are you taking my friend?
JOSEPH - She got sick and I was taking her outside for some air.
LARRY - Well we can take it from here partner.

(LARRY grabs PJ and shifts her weight off JOSEPH and onto himself. In the process, PJ licks LARRY's face.)

APRIL - PJ are you okay?
PJ - Yeah man.
LARRY - She sounds funny.

(JOSEPH slips back into the club through the crowd.)

APRIL - Larry we gotta get her out of here. Something's not right.
LARRY - Yeah, come on.

(LARRY and APRIL take PJ out to LARRY's car. They lay her in the back seat and open the windows so she can get some air. APRIL sits in the back with her.)

APRIL - PJ what happened?
PJ - Books and things.
APRIL - What?

(PJ sits up and looks at APRIL. She smiles, then reaches over and grabs APRIL's breast.)

APRIL - Hey!
LARRY thinks - Oh my God!
APRIL - Girl what's the matter with you?
PJ - It's safe...as long as it's safe.
APRIL - Hurry up and get us home Larry!
LARRY - I'm goin' as fast as I can!

(PJ says nothing but nonsense all the way to campus. They arrive at the Ivy Tower and help her out of the car and inside.)

APRIL - I can take it from here Larry. Thank you so much!
LARRY - You sure you're gonna be okay?
APRIL - Yeah, I got it.
LARRY - Okay well take care.
APRIL - And thanks for the ride home. I really appreciate it frat.
LARRY - Oh no problem. See ya. Hope you feel better PJ.

(PJ smiles as she leans on APRIL. APRIL takes her to the elevator.)

APRIL - PJ what happened to you?
PJ - Everything is mellow, real fast and slow. Cool.
APRIL thinks - At least she's making sense now.
PJ - I wanna cuddle...and fuck!
APRIL thinks - Uh...maybe she aint making sense yet.

(APRIL gets her to the room and lays her on the bed.)

PJ - I want to party! Take me to another party! Take me to the skeephi dot com party!

(PJ won't let go of APRIL who is trying to make her lay down.)

APRIL - The skeephi party is next week Saturday PJ!

(APRIL finally gets loose.)

APRIL - PJ listen to me. Tell me what happened to you.

(PJ looks at APRIL and smiles seductively.)

APRIL - What happened to you?

(PJ sits up and stares back at APRIL. APRIL grabs PJ by her shoulders and shakes her hard.)

APRIL - PJ! Snap out of it! What happened?
PJ - Huh? Ouch! Hey! You're making me dizzy!

(APRIL stops.)

PJ - Hey what did you do that for?
APRIL - I'm trying to make you talk to me with and make some sense! It's like your drunk or high or something!
PJ thinks - High?

(PJ holds her head.)

PJ - High? It's like I'm high?
APRIL - Yeah! What happened to you? Did that guy you were with give you something?
