Episode 3

ALEXIS is bothered by her ex boyfriend BOBBY dating PAULA because she is interested in PAULA's sorority, Sigma Gamma Rho.

ALEXIS thinks - You know what? Enough is enough!

(She picks her phone back up.)

ALEXIS - I hate that I'm about to do this!

(She dials.)

BOBBY - Hello?

(silence)

BOBBY - Hello dammit! Ha ha ha!

ALEXIS - Bobby.

BOBBY - Who is this?

ALEXIS - It's me. Alexis.

BOBBY - Hey! What's up baby girl! What's goin' on?

ALEXIS - Are you busy? I need to talk to you.

BOBBY - Hold on a minute.

(ALEXIS can hear BOBBY turn his music down.)

BOBBY - Naw, I'm cool. What's up?

(ALEXIS takes a deep breath.)

ALEXIS - Bobby, I want to talk to you about who you are dating now.

BOBBY - Huh?

ALEXIS - Paula. I want to talk to you about Paula.

BOBBY - Paula? You want to talk to me about me dating Paula?

ALEXIS - Yes.

(BOBBY laughs to himself.)

BOBBY - What about it?

ALEXIS - Well...

(She pauses.)

ALEXIS - ...you know that I am interested in Sigma Gamma Rho right?

BOBBY - You are? I didn't know that!

(BOBBY is being very sarcastic and ALEXIS picks it up.)

ALEXIS - Oh come on Bobby, why you always playin' around?

BOBBY - Ha ha ha ha ha! I'm sorry, go ahead.

ALEXIS thinks - I knew I shouldn't have called this boy!

ALEXIS - Well...being that I am interested in Sigma Gamma Rho, it is difficult for me to approach Paula and come at her correctly, when I know that you're dating her.

BOBBY - Really?

ALEXIS - Yes Bobby really.

BOBBY thinks - I am the man!

BOBBY - So let me get this straight...you are upset because I am dating someone who is in a sorority that you may want to be a member of...at some point.

ALEXIS - Yes. It bothers me because I have to approach her, talk to her, and hopefully be pledged by her.

BOBBY - And so I am supposed to do...what about this?

(BOBBY is sarcastic again.)

ALEXIS - Bobby I wish you would stop being sarcastic and take my feelings into consideration for once in your life!

BOBBY - Oh is that so?

ALEXIS - As a matter of fact that is so!

BOBBY - So I should be more considerate of your feelings?

ALEXIS - I would appreciate that.

BOBBY - Because it would be difficult for you to pursue an organization with a young lady that your ex is dating.

ALEXIS - Exactly.

(silence)

BOBBY - Well how the hell do you think I feel with you dating Quinton and him and I are in the same fraternity!

MONA is at Pharoahs. She just convinced MARCUS to leave and is now walking around the club.

MONA thinks - Wow, I miss this place. Seems like I haven't been here in forever!

(She feels her cell phone vibrating. She takes it off her hip and answers.)

MONA - Hi soror mommy!

SOROR FERGUSON - Hi Mona! I can barely hear you. Where are you?

MONA - I went out with the sorors mom! We came to a club.

SOROR FERGUSON - You did what with the sorors?

MONA - Hold on mom!

(MONA walks past the dance floor and to the staircase where she can hear better.)

MONA - Can you hear me now?

SOROR FERGUSON - A little better. Where are you sweetie?

MONA - I'm at a club mom. Sorors came out to the club tonight so I am hanging out with them.

SOROR FERGUSON - Oh that's nice dear. It's good to know that you and the chapter sorors are finally getting along.

MONA - Yeah mom. I just love em!

SOROR FERGUSON - That's good Mona. Some of my fondest memories of AKA are right there on Ahpla's campus. You should cherish these times.

MONA - Oh I do. I'm having a blast!

SOROR FERGUSON - So no more semesters off okay!

MONA - Mommy did you call me just to lecture me about my time away from campus? I told you a thousand times that I needed a break. Pledging was rough on me. I was a nervous wreck after line.

SOROR FERGUSON - I can't hear you, what did you say?

MONA - I said that pledging was rough on me so I needed a break.

SOROR FERGUSON - Mona, you're breaking up on your cell phone. I can't hear you.

MONA - Mom, my reception is bad in this stairwell. Let me walk somewhere else and call you back okay?

SOROR FERGUSON - Okay, call me back.

(They hang up.)

MONA thinks - Dag! Only my mother would call me while I'm in a club and want to talk! Good grief!

(MONA walks to the front door.)

MONA - Can I go out and come back in?

BOUNCER - Yeah, just go over there and get your hand stamped.

MONA - Thanks.

(MONA gets her hand stamped and walks outside. She dials her mother.)

SOROR FERGUSON - Hello?

MONA - Hey mom, it's me.

SOROR FERGUSON - Oh okay Mona, I can hear you much better now.

MONA - Okay.

SOROR FERGUSON - Like I was saying dear, I want you to enjoy yourself while you are at Ahpla but your studies come first. So no more taking off of school. Is that agreed?

(MONA rolls her eyes.)

MONA - Yes mom. Agreed.

SOROR FERGUSON - That's my baby.

(MONA smiles. She looks at the long line of people now coming into Pharoahs.)

SOROR FERGUSON - Well look honey, I don't want to keep you. I know you are having a good time with the soro...

MONA - Oh shit!

SOROR FERGUSON - Mona Ferguson! Watch your mouth!

MONA - Oh...oh I'm sorry mommy! I just saw someone that I haven't seen in a long time! I'm sorry, that won't happen again.

SOROR FERGUSON - You be mindful of your language young lady!

MONA - Yes maam.

SOROR FERGUSON - And one more thing, never...

(MONA has the phone to her ear but isn't listening to a thing her mother is saying.)

SOROR FERGUSON - Is that understood?

MONA - Uh...yes maam.

SOROR FERGUSON - Alright Mona. Call me this week.

MONA - Uh huh.

SOROR FERGUSON - Bye bye honey.

MONA - Okay mom, later.

(MONA hangs up and rushes back to the front door. She shows her hand where it was stamped and she hurries back into Pharaohs.)

MONA thinks - What a night this is turning out to be!

BOBBY is on the phone with ALEXIS discussing her feelings toward him dating PAULA.

BOBBY - So I should be more considerate of your feelings?

ALEXIS - I would appreciate that.

(silence)

ALEXIS - Bobby that's different and you know it!

BOBBY - How?

ALEXIS - Because you don't care if I date Quinton!

BOBBY - Excuse me?

ALEXIS - Oh come on Bobby! I know you! You were already cheating on me, and who knows whoever else you're screwing around with! You don't care who I date!

(silence)

ALEXIS - Bobby.

BOBBY - Alexis, you really don't know me at all.

ALEXIS - Yes I do!

BOBBY - No you don't. When you started to date Quinton, that shit tore me apart.

ALEXIS - It did?

ALEXIS thinks - It did?

ALEXIS - Then why did you give Quinton your permission?

BOBBY - Because Quinton asked me when I was sitting with Trina! What the heck was I supposed to say!

ALEXIS - Well that's your fault for messing with that bitch anyway!

BOBBY - You're absolutely right! That's my fault. I made my bed, so I had to lie in it. Which is why after I gave Quinton my permission, I never bothered you or him about it again. I don't call him. I don't give him any kind of attitude up in the chapter meetings. I treat him brotherly and with respect every time I see him. But what does he do?

ALEXIS - What?

BOBBY - He takes every opportunity he can to throw your relationship up in my face!

ALEXIS - No he doesn't!

BOBBY - You wouldn't know! Yes he does! So before you start callin' me trying to check me, you need to check your man!

(silence)

BOBBY - I'll talk to you later Lex.

ALEXIS - Bobby, I'm...

BOBBY thinks -Oh, I am so the freakin' man! I knew she would want me back! Ha! I knew it!

(BOBBY puts his feet up and grabs the remote.)

BOBBY thinks - It was just a matter of time!

(BOBBY turns on the tv.)

BOBBY thinks - As a matter of fact, it'll only be a matter of time before she calls me back! Ha ha ha!

(The telephone rings. BOBBY yells.)

BOBBY - Oh I am the man!

BOBBY thinks - I didn't think it would be that quick! Damn!

(He lets it rings two more times. Then he answers and tries to sound sexy.)

BOBBY - Hello.

CARYN - Bobby where have you been! I need for you to come and pick up Lil Derrick!

BOBBY - What?

CARYN - You haven't called me back and I left your ass two messages! I need for you to come and get the baby tonight! I'm going out!

BOBBY - Caryn I can't tonight. I got plans.

CARYN - Plans? You aint got no plans! You sittin' on your couch right now with the remote in your hand! Bring your lazy ass on!

BOBBY - Naw seriously, I don't have time.

CARYN - You don't have time for your son? You sure had time to help me make him!

BOBBY - That aint got nothin' to do with it! I just don't have...

CARYN - Don't you want to be a good father? Huh? Don't you have a good father that you are always bragging about and talking about? How can you do this to a little boy?

(silence)

BOBBY - Let me call you right back.

CARYN - Hold up...

(click)

BOBBY thinks - Damn!

(BOBBY dials again.)

DERRICK - This is Derrick.

BOBBY - Yo man, it's Bobby. Hey don't hang up! I need to talk to you man! I need your help!

DERRICK - Actually Bobby, I think I may be able to help you. Because now that I think about it...

(DERRICK smiles.)

DERRICK - I think I need your help as well!

APRIL, KATRICE and PJ have gone to Pyramids on gay/lesbian night. APRIL and PJ have just spotted LARRY there as well.

(APRIL looks around at the crowd and tries not to make eye contact with any females for too long.)

APRIL thinks - This is cra...oh my God!

(APRIL grabs PJ's arm.)

PJ - What?

APRIL - Oh my God!

PJ - What? Why are you trippin'?

APRIL - Look!

(APRIL points to the dance floor.)

APRIL - Look right there!

PJ - Oh shit! My sands Larry!

(KATRICE comes back with the drinks.)

KATRICE - Ladies, let's toast.

APRIL - Katrice, look! Look who's here!

KATRICE - Huh? Who?

(APRIL nods with her head toward the dance floor. KATRICE looks closely.)

KATRICE - Is that...is that Larry?

APRIL - Yes! Yes it is!

KATRICE - Oh cool, let's go say hello.

APRIL - What? Hell no! Are you crazy?

KATRICE - Why not?

APRIL - Because...we may embarass him or something.

KATRICE - Embarass him? What?

APRIL - I didn't know he was...

(APRIL whispers.)

APRIL - ...gay!

KATRICE - Who said that he is?

APRIL - Well it's gay lesbian night. So why would someone be here if they aren't...

(PJ gives APRIL a funny look.)

APRIL - Well I aint talkin' about me and you Peej.

(PJ laughs.)

KATRICE - Stop being so paranoid. This is a club. I told you that you may see guys dancing with girls. It aint unusual at all. He may be here for the same reason that you and PJ are here. To hear some cool music and have a good time. And to get away from that young ass Pharoahs crowd.

PJ - Hey! I like Pharoahs.

KATRICE - Uh...yeah, my point exactly.

(KATRICE and APRIL laugh.)

KATRICE - So are yall coming to say hi to Larry or not?

PJ - Yeah let's go.

(The dj plays Hot in Herre by Nelly and the crowd starts to dance harder.)

KATRICE - Oh wait, that's my song right there! Hold on a minute...

(KATRICE looks at the dance floor.)

KATRICE - Yo why don't you two find two nice, sweaty, obnoxious guys to dance with. I'll be right back and we can catch Larry then.

PJ - Where you goin?

KATRICE - Right there!

(KATRICE starts to move through the crowd toward a girl dancing by herself.)

KATRICE - I'll be right back!

MONA has hung up with her mother and rushed back into Club Pharoahs.

(MONA hangs up and rushes back to the front door. She shows her hand where it was stamped and hurries back into Pharaohs.)

MONA thinks - What a night this is turning out to be!

(MONA walks to the edge of the dance floor and looks around.)

MONA thinks - Now where did...oh...there!

(MONA starts to walk toward the bathroom.)

MONA thinks - What a night! First I player hate on Renee, hated to do it but the brother was fine and he didn't want me so...whatever! And now...

(MONA walks into the bathroom which is full of women. She looks around.)

MONA thinks - It's way too crowded in here!

(MONA walks up to a girl who is looking in the mirror.)

MONA - Excuse me, is my make up on right? I gotta look my best girl! Boris from Soul Food just walked in.

GIRL - What! Boris Kodjoe walked in the club!

MONA - Yeah, he just came in with some of his friends.

(All the girls quickly fix their hair and make up in the mirror and start to rush out of the bathroom.)

MONA thinks - That's more like it. I need privacy to work.

(MONA waits for the stall to open and when it does she speaks.)

MONA - Hello there.

(JAHANNA turns and faces MONA.)

JAHANNA - Mona!

As KATRICE, APRIL and PJ were about to confront LARRY in Pyramids, KATRICE decides to dance with someone. She is now coming back to APRIL and PJ.

KATRICE - Hey yall. I know yall aint been standing here this whole time.

PJ - No, I actually just came back. I was on the other side. You didn't see me dancing?

KATRICE - Naw girl, I was preoccupied.

APRIL - Oh God!

(KATRICE rolls her eyes at APRIL.)

KATRICE - Well at least some of us are having a good time tonight.

APRIL - Anyway.

KATRICE - Hey, where did Larry go?

PJ - I saw him go that way.

(PJ points toward a set of stairs.)

KATRICE - Oh that's the stairs that go down to the lower level. Maybe he went down there.

PJ - What goes on downstairs?

KATRICE - I don't know. I've never been.

PJ - Well let's go check it out and see if he's down there.

KATRICE - Cool.

APRIL - Wait, hold up. I aint goin' down nowhere. Who knows what kinda crazy, kinky shit is going on down there!

KATRICE - April shut up and come on.

(They start to make their way through the crowd toward the staircase.)

APRIL thinks - I need to be prepared for the worst! I don't know what to expect down here!

(They get to the staircase and it is crowded going down the stairs.)

KATRICE - Seems like whatever is down here is pretty popular.

APRIL - That's what I'm afraid of!

(As they reach the bottom of the stairs, they look around. There are pool tables, a bar and a few televisions on.)

KATRICE - Oh this is nice. A little lounge area.

(Most of the people downstairs are sitting down talking, or at the bar. It's mostly guys talking with guys and ladies talking with ladies.)

PJ - Do you see Larry anywhere?

(They look around.)

KATRICE - Is that him at the pool table? Oh no, Larry had on a black shirt didn't he?

PJ - Yeah.

APRIL - Oh shit! Is that him sitting down kissing that guy?

(They all quickly look.)

APRIL - Girl, that's not him! Ha ha ha ha!

KATRICE - Well look yall. I didn't come here to run behind Larry. It's mad crowded in here so we may never find him. So let's just have a good time, and if we bump into him, then so be it.

PJ - Yeah, I agree.

APRIL - Okay.

(They go back upstairs toward the dance floor.)

KATRICE - I'm gonna go find that cutie I was dancing with. See yall!

PJ - Okay, we'll meet back right here.

APRIL - You're gonna go dance too?

PJ - Sure, why not.

APRIL - With who?

PJ - With me. I would ask you to come on but your scared that we would look like girlfriends! Ha ha ha ha ha.

(PJ walks toward the dance floor and APRIL goes to sit down.)

APRIL thinks - She's right! She aint even thinking! If I casually dance with her, someone could see us! Just like we saw Larry, what would he think if he saw me and PJ dancing together on lesbian night? I bet he would go and tell all the...

LARRY - April?

(APRIL turns around.)

APRIL - Larry!

LARRY - April, I thought that was you. Uh...I didn't know that you're down with...

JAHANNA has just come out of the stall in the bathroom of Pharoahs and run into MONA.

MONA - Hello there.

(JAHANNA turns and faces MONA.)

JAHANNA - Mona!

(silence)

JAHANNA - What are you doing here? I thought that you were...

MONA - Kicked out of Ahpla? Come on Jahanna, you know they gotta do better than that to keep a bad bitch like me down.

(MONA smiles.)

MONA - Especially when I got scores to settle.

(silence)

(JAHANNA casually walks to the sink and washes her hands.)

JAHANNA - Mona, let me tell you something...

(JAHANNA grabs a paper towel and dries her hands off.)

JAHANNA - I didn't make the AKA line. I don't know all the reasons why, but it probably had something to do with the fact that I beat you up. Maybe that's my fault, but I blame you indirectly. So best believe it is taking everything inside of me from jumping on you in this bathroom and beating the shit out of you.

MONA - What!

(JAHANNA jumps at MONA and MONA flinches back. JAHANNA then gets in MONA's face.)

JAHANNA - I lost AKA once because of you. That aint gonna happen again. But stay out of my way Mona...

(JAHANNA turns to walk out of the bathroom.)

JAHANNA - ...or this bad bitch will kick your ass!
